Get involved! The Portishead Summer Show is the major event in the town’s calendar and is financed by the Portishead and District Horticultural Society. We attract in excess of 5,000 visitors and have a loyal following on Facebook of 2,300. The Show costs more than £35,000 to stage and the organisation and manual work for the Show is all done by members of the Committee and volunteers. The marquees cover an area the size of a supermarket and has to be set up, run and disassembled all within one week! We are indebted to everyone who contributes to the Show’s success: members, patrons, sponsors, local businesses and organisations.
Financing the Show
Given that the Show costs in excess of £35,000 we really need the support of the Portishead Community and local businesses in order to ensure its continuity (we have been going for 160 years). There are a number of ways you can get involved:
- You can visit the Show – a family of 4 can currently visit the Show for £16.00! – if paid in advance (£20 on the gate)
- Become a member of the Society for just £25.00 – this gives you free entry to the Show at any time and the opportunity to attend the monthly members evenings with talks from gardening experts as well as the chance to enter the Members only classes.
- Become a Patron – for as little as £50.00 you can become a Patron of the Show – this gives you two free entry tickets to the Show and details of patronage included on the website
- Become a Sponsor – If you are a local business why not sponsor an Arena Event or one of the classes. We have a range of options – details of our Bronze, Silver and Gold packages can be found on the Sponsors and Patrons page. If you are a large business and interested in becoming our Main Sponsor please contact us.
- Become a Volunteer – Every year we rely on the help of our volunteers who work in all sorts of capacities and we welcome new volunteers to help with: Selling tickets and stewarding the gates, stewarding in the car park, stewarding in the marquees during the Show, setting up the Show and clearing tables and chairs at the end of the Show.
